yield and overcome.

I'm not religious.  I've never been.  I don't even think you could call me "spiritual".  But I do believe there is something greater that might have a hand in a lot that has happened and what is still yet to come.  I read something inspiring, motivating, and just plain awesome the other day.  It kind of stopped me in my tracks because it was just so fitting considering everything that is going on in my life, be it the crushing truths or the intoxicatingly high highs that are floating around me that I seem to just be standing in the middle of.  It's like everything right now is moving in slow motion the way that everything underwater looks like it's in slow motion.  The thing is, when really awful things occur, it feels like an eternity won't quit and ironically, that's the part that you want to fast forward through.  But then all of the amazing moments fly by when all you ever want is for them to be paused, cut, and freeze-framed. Going back to what I read, it just felt right.  In the most basic way, I guess you could say that it "spoke" to me in the way that some  people claim that "God" "speaks" to them.  And that feels weird to even write because nothing really ever "speaks" to me.  That said,   It reminded me to inhale and exhale, to move forward and keep going and breathing and that no matter what, the choices I make are ultimately the ones I will own myself and live up to for my daughter.  If not, then what's the point?

Tao Te Ching
-Lao Tzu-
Twenty-two

Yield and overcome;
Bend and be straight;
Empty and be full;
Wear out and be new;
Have little and gain;
Have much and be confused.

Therefore wise men embrace the one
And set an example to all.
Not putting on a display,
They shine forth.
Not justifying themselves,
They are distinguished.
Not boasting,
They receive recognition.
Not bragging,
They never falter.
They do not quarrel,
So no one quarrels with them.
Therefore the ancients say, 'Yield and overcome.'
Is that an empty saying?
Be really whole,
And all things will come to you.
